Stuffing For Brains

An old friend of mine got married last night and I offered to crochet something for him and his bride-to-be before the wedding. He waffled a little for a moment, then realized the perfect thing: a lobster.

The two of them once learned that lobsters mate for life and since then, they started to say "You're my lobster!" to one another. So that's what I made for them. It was cute, at the wedding they actually had a lot of lobsters, including a lobster cake!
Lobster!
So this is the lobster I made. It's hard to read properly in the picture (and I promise it looks better in person), but embroidered on the stomach it says "A + J 2011" which are their initials and, obviously, the year they got married.
A + J 2011

Both the bride and the groom loved the lobster and, in fact, the groom carried it around in his pocket half the night at the reception. :D I was very happy he enjoyed it so much!

Bludolf the red nose, blue reindeer, had a very colorful life~
And if you ever saw him... you'd wanna be... his wife...?

Yeah... I'll stick to the crocheting.

So, anyway, this was made back in December and I just haven't been uploading things lately. The story behind Bludolf is a silly one, of course, like all my silly amigurumis. My friend and I were making Christmas cookies a few years ago and while all hopped up on frosting and sugar cookie dough, we decided to make funny colored reindeer. Well, just one, really, he was blue. And so I put a bit of red on his nose, so he could be Rudolf. Because of the fact that he was blue, though... his name, of course, had to be Bludolf.

For whatever reason, my friend cracked up. It only got worse when we started quoting Labyrinth, sort of, and saying "Bludolf! FRIEND!" in Bluto's voice. To this day, it still makes us laugh. So I made her this as a Christmas gift.

Some of you may remember Purtle, the Purple Turtle that I made for my sister-in-law. Well! I made him a cousin, Pinkerton, the Pink Turtle! He was made by request for my friend's birthday. Well, by her husband's request, as it was a surprise for her. :)
Picture
Pinkerton was made with Caron Simply Soft yarns:
Brites: Watermelon
Soft Pink

Made with a G/6 hook and a pattern altered from the Lion Brand website.

So, working in a library, I get to see all sorts of neat new craft and crochet books that come in. This one came in just before Halloween, called Witch Craft by Margaret McGuire and Alicia Kachmar. In it, was this cute knitted spider, which I was sad about, because I can't knit. Well, not like that. There was also this really adorable Good Witch pattern by Sayjai of K and J Dolls. So my boss, who knits, and I, who crochet, decided to make the spider and witch and trade. The pattern is pretty easy to follow, but once you get to the head, it sorta feels like it takes ages.

I was really pleased with how it turned out! I did make one mistake... which made it so her body was technically on backwards, but you wouldn't be able to tell. Basically, though, if you do it right, you won't end up with that hitch in colors on the neck that my doll has. As a side note, I never put mouths on anything I make, not since the first octopus I made.

I just wanted to add this little picture. I think it's adorable the way the hands are made on this doll. They have LITTLE THUMBS!

It's so cute and not as hard as I expected it might have been.

Yarn for this project!

Caron Simply Soft: Bone (for skin) Black (hat and dress), Soft Pink (socks).
Caron Simply Soft Collection: Passion (hair)

I used a G/6 hook and the doll turned out about 5 or 6 inches tall, not including the hat.

I made this cute little bunny for my cousin's daughter. She really, really likes pink.

Pierogi are a small, Eastern European pastry snack usually filled with cheese and potato or meat and onion, perhaps spinach or mushrooms or... well, whatever you want to put in them! Basically, they're completely delicious.

A small town in northern Indiana, called Whiting, holds an annual festival called Pierogi Fest.

So here they are! A plate of my adorable little crochet pierogi.

This is Purtle. Purtle is a Purple Turtle~! Obviously.

I made this little guy for my sister-in-law-to-be when I realized I hadn't made any amigurumis for her. She requested a turtle and because she loves purple... and I have lots of purple yarn, I decided to make a purple turtle. And name it Purtle.

I went to an October craft group meeting and had to think of something befittingly Octobery to make, so I went with a winged pattern of little ghosties!

I made it up as I went along, then had to recreate it twice more! :X The only difference between the three is that one has big eyes, one has little eyes and one has o_O wonky eyes.

The wonky eyed one is my favorite. :)

These ghosts were completed in October of 2009. Also, after this, all of the amis should be posted in real time, as they're finished.

If Edgar Von Schnuglehoffen was the most bizarre of all amis I've made, Eeyore was the most... intricate amigurumi I've made. He's also the biggest. The pattern came from an AMAZING amigurumi pattern maker who goes by Siempre Josefina. You can check out her website here, and her Etsy account here. Josefina's patterns are not only beautiful, but also very easy to follow. She's great to buy from, has reasonable prices and just great!

This is how my version of her Eeyore pattern turned out:
Picture
This Eeyore was made for the friend who got the hedgehog and the turtle. It was a birthday present to her, because she's a huuuge fan of Eeyore and every year I give her an Eeyore of some sort. This year, I made her one!

The main differences between my execution of Eeyore and the way the pattern are all in the tail. The tail, in Josefina's pattern, is meant to be attached, with a crochet (or felt, I forget) thumbtack and a crochet bow. I made the bow out of real ribbon (fancy stuff, too, which drove me crazy because it was too delicate, but it was the best color match) and I used a button for the pushpin. Also, his tail is completely detachable. While most Eeyore plushies have the tail attached by Velcro, I decided to put magnets into the tail and bum. It's sooo awesome, I'm really happy with the way it turned out. :D
